I lived most of my life in Birmingham, but I now live in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

I have always been interested in Art and in Photography particularly, so moving to
such a beautiful area has been fabulous as I love to explore and photograph the
landscape as I do so.

After having a long break from education I decided to take an A Level in
Photography and gained an A grade, which lead me to continue and study for a
Foundation Degree in Contemporary Art Practice at Leek Collage, where I met my
fellow artists in Contemporary Mix.

Water in the Landscape. I draw my inspiration from spending time in the outdoors, participating in my hobbies – mountaineering / rock climbing and sailing. The interaction of water in the landscape has been a key element to much of my work. Although living in the Midlands, I travel widely in the UK in pursuit of my hobbies which is reflected by the breadth of locations represented – Wales, Scotland, Lake District etc. I am currently working in acrylics and oil pastels, which I like to use to bring to life the depth of the landscapes I am painting through the textures of the media, particularly oil pastels. More recently I have started to explore pencil sketching, specifically portraits which has focussed initially on members of my family

Working in mixed media, I will be presenting an exhibition of work, past and present, that is inspired by the gorgeous Derbyshire landscape. As part of my Art Foundation at leek College I will also be exhibiting a small amount of ceramic work that is inspired by those weird and wonderful rock formations on top of KinderScout, more commonly known as the “Woolpacks”.

HOPE THROUGH SORROW

So many unhappy events seem to befall us during our lifetime but I believe there is always hope. My work portrays a message.

My contemporary style of work, executed mainly in acrylic inks on canvas and also 3D images shows examples of life as it has touched me over the past few years.

I usually work quickly either in, charcoal, pen and ink or in mixed media. The life figure is a constant inspiration to me, using the gesture and rhythm of the line to develop its own life within its form. The shapes inside and outside the figure help to create its own story and life.
